Avocados are becoming more and more popular because of their versatility as well as excellent flavor. This amazing food is loaded with various nutrients including vitamins B5, B6, C, K, E then fiber, potassium and healthy fats.

Since avocados popularity is growing, the prices have also gone much higher.

So, in order to be able to enjoy all the benefits provided by avocado without spending a fortune, we are going to explain to you how you can grow it at home.

Growing an avocado tree at home is not as complicated as it may seem. You only need a seed. You should thoroughly clean the seed, stick 4 toothpicks in it and then place it in a glass of water so that it soaks in an inch of water.

Keep the glass in a warm place away from direct sunlight. In about 2-6 weeks the stems should have grown up to 6 inches and the roots should be visible.

Cut the stems back until they are 3 inches long, and wait until they grow again and there are more leaves.

Get a larger pot about 10 inches in diameter with a small drainage hole. Fill the pot with nutrient-rich soil and make a small hole at the top of the compost. Place the seed in that hole, but make sure it is not too deep.

You should keep the pot in a sunny area and remember to water it regularly. If the leaves become brown and dry it means the plant is not properly hydrated. In that case you should put the pot in the sink and allow the water to run through the soil for a few seconds.

Watering the plant too often can make the leaves turn droopy and yellow, and in that case you shouldn’t water the plant for a few days.

Taking proper care of the tree will make it flourish, however it could take a few years until it starts bearing fruit. Once it does you can enjoy your organic avocados every day for free.
